Mountainview Agronomy LTD was set up by William Foster and David Molloy in July 2008 and was developed to provide clients with an
independent agronomy service. William Foster moved to Methven, New Zealand, in August 2007 with his partner Sophie. He has considerable experience in both crop spraying and agronomy, coming from an arable background in the Lincolnshire Wolds, England, where he is also a partner in his family contract spraying business. William studied agriculture at Riseholme College, near Lincoln, and went on to further his study at Harper Adams, Shropshire. He also completed his BASIS in 2002 and FACTS in 2003.
Up until July 2008 Molloy Agricultural Spraying were providing the agronomy service free of charge as part of the spraying operation but time and running costs meant it was no longer sustainable. With the ever increasing input costs and tighter margins in growing crops, whether it be cropping or animal feed, professional agronomy services are key to profitability for growers. The services we provide cover a wide range of crops including cereals, grass seeds, pasture rejuvenation, winter feed and silage crops. Our aim is to provide advice on cropping plans, cultivations, fertiliser use and chemical inputs to achieve the best return for the grower. We mainly operate across Mid-Canterbury, with some larger contracts taking us further afield.
With strong links in the UK we are able to use the latest cropping systems, where suitable for the New Zealand conditions, as well as carrying out field scale trials on the home farm at Cairnbrae.
At Mountainview Agronomy we use the latest technologies including the ‘Muddy Boots’ software which is used for recommendations and recording. This allows us to produce clear and concise chemical recommendation’s and record application details for fertiliser, cultivations etc. Detailed reports for all actions on individual paddocks and costs can then be presented to show gross margins and help identify areas for improvement.

ATV’s are used to inspect the paddocks before the crops get too high. This helps us to be time efficient and still get over the ground identifying any problem area’s that could be missed on foot.
Our time is billed out on a ‘per hectare’ basis for the season/crop or at an agreed annual fee. This gives the grower piece of mind that crops will be monitored and correct actions taken with no sales motives
