Growth in Agrecovery container collection sites continues

Across the country participation in the Agrecovery rural recycling programme continues to increase, so Agrecovery is responding by constantly looking at its collection network.

In Masterton, this has led to a change of location with increased operating hours for its local container collection site; and an increase in operating hours at the Methven site - both moves designed to improve access to the service.

Masterton farmers, growers and agricultural contractors have found it much more convenient to recycle their used agrichemical containers with the relocation of the Agrecovery collection depot from the Masterton Transfer Station to Masterton’s PGG Wrightson store in Lincoln Road on January 14.

Masterton PGG Wrightson store manager Shane Cohen says he started receiving phone calls from clients and people began dropping off containers at the store from day one.

“Some large local agricultural contractors I spoke to said the fact the transfer station site had previously only been available one day a week had been a bit inconvenient.

“Now they are saying it’s great to know there is a collection site that is accessible more hours, which means it will be better utilised and it’s more user-friendly.”

In Methven over the last year more than 7000 empty containers have been recovered by farmers and growers.

The popularity of Agrecovery in the region has given the local collection site – Molloy Agricultural Spraying - confidence to increase its opening hours from one day a week to five days a week.

Molloy Agricultural Spraying operations manager David Mangin says people were already bringing in their containers on other days, so the time was right to step things up a gear.

“It’s much more convenient now – we are here every day of the week anyway, so it makes it easier for everyone and it’s more accessible.”

“This will be of huge benefit, as there’s been wide uptake of the rural recycling programme in the region,” he says.

Both the Masterton and Methven sites are now open Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm.

This year Agrecovery is planning to increase its national container collection network by adding another 20 sites. This will take the total number nationwide to 70.
