The Molloy’s Story

David Molloy was born in Methven in 1962.  He went through his schooling years in Methven, trained as a mechanic and went on to work for a local contractor as a chemical applicator for 2 years.David Molloy

David returned home to work on the family farm and in 1985 put on his first spray unit, a J1 Bedford. He went into business as an owner/operator and set himself a goal of one day owning his own farm.  It was a busy year all round. David and Sonia married that year and with their shared focus on growing the spraying business, they began the process of setting more goals to achieve their vision.   David had the ambition to one day own a high clearance self propelled sprayer.  Now Molloy Agricultural Spraying Limited owns and runs six Bateman sprayers along with four 4 wheel drive units and are currently spraying over 90,000 hectares of Mid Canterbury each year. MASL have a team of 12 people.

The daily work for drivers is organised and coordinated by their Operations Manager, David Mangin. He is ably supported by Vicki Mee who is in charge of Office Administration.  The office and yard is situated just 3kms outside of Methven, a rural township and village close to Mt Hutt Ski field, with a variety of shops and activities.

David Molloy takes pride in the team that works for him and understands that these people are vital to the continued growth and quality service the business provides. However, finding the right people with the right skills means David has to travel beyond and recruit outside of New Zealand on a frequent basis. Molloy Agricultural Spraying Limited have always recruited the right people for the job and this gives the team a diverse range of experience asBateman RB25. David also has a great deal of respect for his clients and their respective business’ and he values those who have supported him from the early days.

He still has a passion for farming and farmed in partnership with his parents on a 330 hectare dry land farming operation until June 2010 . This passion has helped increase his knowledge and understanding within the industry and this drives him to continue to improve and extend the range of services and professionalism of the company.
